The Soap Process
At Three Flowers Soap, all of our products are made using the cold process soaping method. By mixing oils and butters (fats) with sodium hydroxide (lye), the chemical process of saponification occurs - creating soap! Our soaps are formulated to be hard bars with LOADS of fluffy lather.
By "superfatting" our soaps (adding 5% more oils and butters than are required to react with and use up all of the lye), we ensure our soaps are safe and incredibly gentle and moisturizing to your skin.
All of our soaps contain Coconut Oil, Olive Oil and Shea Butter (love the Shea Butter!), with some also utilizing Castor Oil, Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil or Rice Bran Oil. Palm Oil is NOT used in any of our soaps, as we don’t feel comfortable with the environment impacts surrounding its use.
Once the soap base is made, various coloring and patterning techniques allow us to create beautiful bars, and essential oils ensure a fabulous scent without the synthetic irritation.
From there, our soaps are allowed to cure for 4-6 weeks. Curing ensures that first, the chemical reaction is completed and secondly, that the bar can harden and form a long-lasting, gentle soap for you!
